ROLE
UXR, UX Design
the average woman spends 17 minutes each morning trying to pick an outfit
According to a 2016 study by Marks & Spencer, women spend about 17 minutes each morning choosing an outfit to wear to work. Add up 17 minutes per day from age 18 to 60 and you get half a year of lost time.
INTRODUCTION
THE PROBLEM
The problem lies in the daily hassle of selecting an outfit each morning, which is compounded by the awareness of clothes playing a crucial role in shaping people's perceptions, particularly for young, fashion-conscious adults who desire to make a favorable impression while aiming to economize their time and finances.
THE SOLUTION
FitCheck is a clothing app with the purpose of helping users catalog and plan their outfits for each day/occasion.
The app targets young individuals and provides them with an interface that fuses functionality and aesthetics
MY ROLE
My role includes user research and visual design. Due to a 4-week time constraint and lack of budget, this did not allow for a true user-research; however, I was able to interview two(2) different individuals and was able to discover that, as users, they seek easy and simple tasks especially in the morning.
RESEARCH
getting to know the user
During the development stages of FitCheck, I began researching with a contextual inquiry conducted on target users where they went through their closets and picked an outfit for the day.
I interviewed 2 individuals, someone who doesn’t have time to go through their outfits every day, and another who has trouble picking their outfits.
Here are my findings:
Afterwards, I observed the person throughout their daily process of picking an outfit for the day and created an empathy map with my observations.
DESIGNING
The Impact/Effort Matrix served key part of my planning process, enabling me to prioritize design enhancements based on their potential impact and user effort. Through this, I was able to streamline decision-making, ensuring that was focusing on improvements that would most significantly enhance the user experience.
For this application’s design, I decided to focus on the task of categorizing and assigning outfits to the user’s calendar
Before designing my screens, I worked on low-fidelity wireframes to plan the layouts.

TAKEAWAYS
keeping it simple & user-focused
Overall, I learned about the importance of simplicity while designing applications. My intent for the impact of the app is to make its users handle tasks more intuitively and efficiently.
Working on this project taught me a lot about the challenges of staying open-minded during the design process. I’ve learned how important it is to step outside my own perspective and think about users who have different needs and preferences. I think embracing the diversity of users and their unique requirements really helped me understand what it means to create designs that are truly user-focused.
In future steps, I would like to conduct usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed as well as conduct more user research to determine any new areas that need to be updated.
